To Our Elko Community

PC Reps is pausing in-shop operations, effective immediately.

We are not closing permanently. We are not dissolving. PC Reps is going dormant — and we want to explain why.

This is one of the hardest messages we've ever had to write, but we owe it to you to be honest — the way we've always tried to be.

Over the past several months, the technology market has shifted dramatically — and it's only gotten worse. The cost of computer components — RAM, SSDs, motherboards, screens — has skyrocketed due to a global semiconductor crisis driven by the explosion of artificial intelligence. The world's largest memory manufacturers — Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron — have permanently shifted their production toward high-performance memory chips used in AI data centers, leaving everyday computers, laptops, and consumer electronics structurally undersupplied. Micron shut down its entire Crucial consumer brand. Every major NAND manufacturer has confirmed that their 2026 production is completely sold out. IDC, one of the world's leading technology research firms, has called this "not a cyclical shortage, but a potentially permanent strategic reallocation" of the world's chip-making capacity. The result? A basic 1TB SSD that cost $50–60 a year ago now runs $250 or more. RAM kits have tripled or quadrupled in price. Even hard drives are up nearly 50%. Multiple industry analysts project this shortage lasting until at least 2030 — and some believe it may represent a permanent shift in how computer parts are priced.

For you, that means repair quotes that used to be $200–300 are now $500, $600, or higher — and climbing. We've watched as more and more of our customers — understandably — have had to decline repairs because the cost just doesn't make sense anymore. And honestly? We agree with you. We wouldn't want to pay those prices either.

On top of the rising costs, the shortage has created serious quality control issues across the industry. Vendors we've trusted for years are now shipping parts that arrive dead on arrival or fail shortly after installation. That means what should be a straightforward repair can turn into weeks of waiting for replacement after replacement — and that's not the experience we want to give you. You deserve better than that, and we'd rather pause than deliver a service we can't stand behind.

We got into this business because we love technology and we love helping people. Elko welcomed us, supported us, and trusted us with your devices — and that means more to us than we can express. But the reality is that we can no longer provide the level of service this community deserves at prices that are fair to you. And we refuse to charge you an arm and a leg for repairs that don't make financial sense for your household.

What This Means for You

We want to sincerely thank every customer, every friend, and every neighbor who walked through our doors, recommended us to a friend, or trusted us with their technology. This community gave us a chance, and we are so grateful for that.

This isn't goodbye. It's just a pause.

We hope that as the market stabilizes, we'll be able to serve you again in the future. In the meantime, thank you for being part of the PC Reps family.

With gratitude, Matthew & the PC Reps Team
