To Our Elko Community

PC Reps is pausing in-shop operations, effective immediately.

We are not closing permanently. We are not dissolving.

PC Reps is going dormant — and we want to explain why.

This is one of the hardest messages we've ever had to write, but we owe it to you to be honest — the way we've always tried to be.

Over the past several months, the technology market has shifted dramatically. The cost of computer components — RAM, SSDs, motherboards, screens — has skyrocketed due to a global semiconductor shortage driven largely by the explosion of artificial intelligence. The world's largest memory manufacturers — Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron — have shifted their production toward high-performance memory chips used in AI data centers, which means fewer parts are being made for everyday computers, laptops, and consumer electronics. The result? Parts that cost us $100 a year ago now cost $300, $400, or more. Industry analysts are warning this shortage could last well into 2029 or beyond.

For you, that means repair quotes that used to be $200–300 are now $500, $600, or higher. We've watched as more and more of our customers — understandably — have had to decline repairs because the cost just doesn't make sense anymore. And honestly? We agree with you. We wouldn't want to pay those prices either.

On top of the rising costs, the shortage has created serious quality control issues across the industry. Vendors we've trusted for years are now shipping parts that arrive dead on arrival or fail shortly after installation. That means what should be a straightforward repair can turn into weeks of waiting for replacement after replacement — and that's not the experience we want to give you. You deserve better than that, and we'd rather pause than deliver a service we can't stand behind.

We got into this business because we love technology and we love helping people. Elko welcomed us, supported us, and trusted us with your devices — and that means more to us than we can express. But the reality is that we can no longer provide the level of service this community deserves at prices that are fair to you. And we refuse to charge you an arm and a leg for repairs that don't make financial sense for your household.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

  • If you currently have a device with us, we will be reaching out to you directly to discuss your repair status and coordinate next steps. If you'd like to pick up your device, you're welcome to come by the shop this Tuesday. Please don't hesitate to call us at (775) 460-2190 with any questions.

  • We are not accepting new repair jobs at this time.

  • Active Webroot subscriptions and renewals will continue to be supported.

We want to sincerely thank every customer, every friend, and every neighbor who walked through our doors, recommended us to a friend, or trusted us with their technology. This community gave us a chance, and we are so grateful for that.

This isn't goodbye. It's just a pause.

We hope that as the market stabilizes, we'll be able to serve you again in the future. In the meantime, thank you for being part of the PC Reps family.

With gratitude,

Matthew & the PC Reps Team
